Show Details

This 2022 short documentary was created as a collaboration among the Swampscott male affinity group R.O.C., the Swampscott Council on Aging, and Swampscott Educational Access TV. Inspired by Black History Month, "Black History, Our History" explores the evolution of Racism in our country through the lived historical perspectives of 4 Swampscott senior citizens of different demographics/backgrounds. Those interviewed have been lucky enough to not only be alive for the first Civil Rights movement but also experience the reignition of the fight after the murder of George Floyd. Using MLK’s "I have a Dream" speech which initiated our country’s first civil rights movement, students were able to dig into the similarities and differences of these two events seen by the interviewees. This student driven documentary takes an innovative, first hand approach to exploring history through the eyes of those who lived through momentous events, allowing generations to connect authentically and purposefully while promoting a shared message of social justice.
